Attic Blown-in Insulation & Removal

Blown-in attic insulation is worth buying!

Lower your SaskEnergy and SaskPower bills by raising the R-value of your home. You’ll have less strain on your heating and cooling systems and more money to spend elsewhere. Blow-in attic insulation is the cheapest and most efficient way. (Blown-in insulation is also known as loose-fill insulation)

Canadian homes weren’t always built as energy-efficient as they are today. New technology and new materials make a big difference to a home’s energy consumption. Blown cellulose insulation is one of these break-through technologies.

Enjoy a cooler home in the summer and a warmer home during the harsh winter! Poly Plus blown-in attic insulation can increase the comfort of your home. It will also increase the longevity of your shingles.

Blown-in vs batts

Fibreglass batts are an established and easily recognizable form of insulation. Batt and roll insulation is simple to install and budget-friendly. Why then do we need blown-in fibreglass or cellulose? One answer is that it is much better at insulating tight places, like the edges of an attic. You do not need to choose between one form or another. Filling in between the joists with rolls of batt insulation keeps the project cost down. You’ll need to lay down another layer of insulation to stop heat from transferring through the joists. Why not blow it in instead? You won’t have to worry about missing anything. It will be well covered.

Spray foam also works well with loose-fill insulation, particularly in attics. The foam is used to create an air seal, maybe even a vapour barrier (depending on the coverage). It is sprayed around the edges, the roof-deck and around pipes or other fixtures. It too is good at getting into tight places. Blow-in insulation would then cover any foam and batts on the attic floor. We do this to raise the home’s R-value (resistance to heat flow).
